Welcome to the Marsooli Research Lab

We investigate emerging challenges in coastal engineering and coastal physical oceanography, with a focus on understanding and predicting coastal processes and hazards such as storm surge, waves, coastal flooding, and erosion. We also study the role of nature-based solutions in mitigating coastal hazards and enhancing coastal resilience. Using advanced numerical modeling, AI, and data analysis, we examine the complex interactions between ocean processes, coastal landscapes, and built infrastructure. Our goal is to improve scientific understanding of coastal systems and develop innovative solutions that strengthen the resilience of communities and infrastructure to coastal hazards across a range of time scales.

Stevens Institute of Technology overlooking the Manhattan skyline

The Marsooli Research Lab is part of the Civil and Ocean Engineering programs in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Ocean Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, which is located in Hoboken, New Jersey, just a 10-minute subway ride from New York City. The Stevens campus overlooks the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline, providing a unique and inspiring environment for research and education.

Founded in 1870, Stevens is one of the oldest technological universities in the United States and is well known for its strong programs in engineering, science, and management. Stevens consistently ranks among the top institutions in the nation for career placement and salary potential for its graduates.

We welcome inquiries from prospective PhD students interested in coastal engineering, ocean processes, coastal hazards, and numerical modeling.
