Current Graduate Students

Alauddin Al Azad
Alauddin Al Azad
PhD Candidate

Alauddin’s dissertation focuses on quantifying and understanding the contribution of surface waves on long-term coastal mean sea level change and variability using hydrodynamic and wave modeling. His work includes modeling using the coupled ADCIRC+SWAN model.

Xiaotong Feng
Xiaotong Feng
PhD Student

Xiaotong’s research investigates the long-term response of sandy, urbanized coastlines to variability in environmental forces including waves and sea level change. Her research uses models for shoreline evolution and coastal erosion hazards.

Maria Venolia
Maria Venolia
PhD Candidate

Maria’s research focuses on wind-generated wave climate change and variability. Her research advances the understanding of wave climate from a wave spectra perspective using buoy observations and coupled SCHISM+WWM modeling.

Serine Razika Ziadi
Serine Razika Ziadi
PhD Student

Serine’s research aims to advance subseasonal-to-seasonal coastal flood predictions using statistical approaches and dynamic downscaling of coastal sea levels with coupled hydrodynamic and spectral wave models.

Former Graduate Students

Erfan Amini
Erfan Amini
PhD (2021–2025)

First Career Placement: Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Columbia University, New York.

Erfan completed his dissertation focusing on the performance of hybrid seawall–vegetation systems for mitigating coastal flood risks.

Mohammad Jamous
Mohammad Jamous
PhD (2019–2023)

First Career Placement: Coastal Engineer at Mott MacDonald, New York.

Mohammad’s dissertation investigated the impacts of climate change on extreme wave hazards to coastal erosion of sandy beaches and dunes.

Daniel Rosenberger
Daniel Rosenberger
MS (2020–2022)

First Career Placement: Civil Water Engineer at Arup, New York.

Daniel’s thesis investigated the benefits of vegetation for mitigating wave impact loads on seawalls using a phase-resolving wave model.

Yifan Wang
Yifan Wang
PhD (2019–2022)

First Career Placement: Postdoctoral Researcher at Rutgers University, New Jersey.

Yifan’s dissertation focused on flood hazards in coastal urban environments and the effects of sea-level rise on flood hazards in New York City.
